groSolar Achieves Approval for NY Solar Project
ROME, NY – The Rome City Council Planning Board, at a meeting today, approved the site plan for a 2.8MW ground-mounted solar project to be built just southwest of the intersection of Old Oneida and Lowell roads.
Known as the Mohawk Valley Solar Partners project, this development is a partnership between groSolar and Mohawk Valley Community College. At completion, the approximately 9,000 ground-mounted solar panels are expected to generate power to the equivalent of 35 percent of the College’s total electrical usage.
“This proposed solar project brings with it a number of benefits to the entire Rome community,” said MVCC President Dr. Randall VanWagoner. “In addition to the significant electricity cost savings for MVCC, this project will also enhance educational programs, such as allowing us to incorporate solar power training into the electrical service curriculum.”
